Today, the market cycle reads Phase 3 (optimism) — sentiment turning optimistic; confidence Medium (how closely the evidence layers agree in direction). Money is flowing steadily in (accumulation): QQQ, XLE, XLK, SMH, XLF; flowing out (distribution): XLV.

(weak) = a marginal signal just past the threshold — context only; conclusions rest on strong signals.
† All A/D reads in this table are volume-price inference. Crypto ETFs also publish real creation/redemption flows — when the two disagree, trust the real flows.
Strong signals — accumulation: XLE; distribution: XLV. Price-up/volume-down divergence: QQQ, XLK, SMH, IBIT. Weak signals are context only, never the basis for a conclusion.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| XLK | S2 | +17.5% | +4.5% | XLK: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average); the recent advance lacks volume behind it, so the uptrend read carries a caveat. |
| XLE | S2 | +5.2% | +3.3% | XLE: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average). |
| XLF | S2 | +6.8% | +0.5% | XLF: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average). |

| XLP | S2 | +0.2% | +1.4% | XLP: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average); the recent advance lacks volume behind it, so the uptrend read carries a caveat. |
| XLI | S2 | +6.3% | +2.8% | XLI: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average); the recent advance lacks volume behind it, so the uptrend read carries a caveat. |
| SMH | S2 | +28.8% | +10.5% | SMH: Weinstein stage 2, in an uptrend (price above a rising 30-week average); the recent advance lacks volume behind it, so the uptrend read carries a caveat (tracked separately — e.g. a sub-sector — not counted in the dispersion index). |

Cycle Phase 3 (optimism), confidence Medium; leaders are thinning on volume, flows and structure are crossing in tension, the cycle read just crossed into a new phase (recheck pending), this deep-read unpacks the current market-structure signals.

How to read this dispatch
This dispatch is built from Weinstein stages, the 30-week moving average, and sector dispersion. Here is what the table terms mean, so a first-time reader can decode them.
- Phase vs. Stage (two ladders)
- This page uses two different four-step ladders. The page-top cycle read uses Templeton's sentiment phases — bull markets are born in pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism, die on euphoria — labelled Phase. The sector table uses Weinstein's trend Stages: basing, advance, top, decline. The numbers overlap but the meanings differ — Phase 3 is optimism, while Stage 3 is a topping pattern — so the two words are kept distinct on purpose.
- Stage
- Weinstein splits a trend into four Stages: Stage 1 basing (flat average), Stage 2 advance (rising average, price above it), Stage 3 top (the average flattens, momentum fades), and Stage 4 decline (falling average, price below it). It answers: which part of the larger arc are we in?
- Distance
- How far price sits above or below its 30-week simple moving average (roughly seven months of closes), in %. +20% means price is 20% above the average — the more extended, the further from trend; near 0 means it is hugging the line, the weakest trend.
- Slope
- How fast the 30-week average line itself is rising or falling. Distance measures how far price is from the line; slope measures how steeply the line tilts. A steeper slope is a stronger trend; a flattening slope is the classic Stage-2-into-Stage-3 (topping) tell.
- Sector dispersion
- How spread out the sectors are across stages and trend strength. Low means broad agreement — healthy breadth and a more trustworthy signal; high is a yellow flag — leadership is narrowing to a few names, the classic late-expansion fragility.
- Accumulation / Distribution
- From classical volume-price analysis. Accumulation is a sector being bought persistently (net inflow); distribution is being sold persistently (net outflow). It describes who controls the tape — not a forecast of tomorrow — and it lags by design.
- Volume Δ%
- This week's average daily volume versus the previous week's, in %. −30% means the week traded on 30% thinner volume day to day. It measures participation, not price: an advance on shrinking volume is weaker evidence than the same advance on expanding volume.
- Confidence
- How consistently the evidence layers behind the cycle read point the same way. High means the layers agree; Low means they conflict. It measures the internal coherence of today's read — not the probability that the market keeps moving in that direction.
